About Us – Your Red Cross

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families.  The American Red Cross is a charity, not a government agency, and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.

The El Paso Red Cross was chartered in 1911 to serve the local area in response to the Mexican Revolution.  Our jurisdiction currently includes El Paso, Hudspeth & Culberson counties and Fort Bliss, Texas.  Our volunteers, paid staff, and board leadership continue the proud tradition of helping El Paso and its neighbors prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

In fiscal year 2009 we responded to 103 disasters and provided assistance to 750 clients.  We provided temporary shelter to 174 individuals, community disaster education to 5,600 people, and 10,475 individuals completed the Be Red Cross Ready program.  We also trained 29,282 people in lifesaving skills, served more than 5,200 military families, and also provided valuable referrals to 1,532 people.

This work was accomplished through the invaluable contributions of our 367 volunteers and more than 1,200 financial donors.
